For donors in the United States, the IRS has classified cryptocurrencyÌýas a form of property. This means that when you donate Bitcoin or otherÌýcryptocurrenciesÌýto a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, such as the 91ÌÒÉ« Foundation, you may be required to pay capital gains tax on donatedÌýcryptocurrencyÌýand still be able to claim a deduction for your gift. Many companies and corporate foundations encourage their employees’ philanthropic efforts by matching their contributions to non-profit organizations such as 91ÌÒÉ«. Some companies will even match the donations made by retirees and/or spouses. Corporate matching gifts are an important source of annual giving funds for 91ÌÒÉ«. In most cases, MidAmerica receives dollar-for-dollar matches. But in some cases, the company’s match doubles or triples the gift of the employee. Therefore, you have the opportunity to double or even triple the impact of your gift!
